Heat Wave

This past week North Texas experienced a heat wave. Triple digit temperatures with humidity leaving us feeling even hotter. Naturally, we chose to spend the entire weekend outside. What were we thinking!?!

First up was a camping trip with a bunch of our friends. We were hoping for nice campsites donning electricity so that we could aim several large fans on all of us. However, the electricity sites were gone before we arrived. We made do instead with some small battery powered fans and a slight breeze.

All of us arrived with enough gear to survive a week, even though this was just an overnighter. We can never be too prepared right? That is unless you realize that the campsites you signed up for aren't ones you drive into. Nope, we got to haul all of our tents, ice compacted coolers, and heavy cookware a few hundred yards through sandy, rocky, slopes. Let me remind you, it was 103 degrees outside
Then there was the wildlife. Three snakes, one skunk, thousands of cicadas, and too many flying bugs to keep track of. What an adventure!
Ok, I'm making this sound like the worst experience ever, but surprisingly it wasn't. Everyone was in good spirits and we laughed through our discomfort. Besides, this is the stuff memories are made of. We we definitely never forget our camping trip in the summer of 2009.
Thank goodness for the Lake! Everyone enjoyed that part, as long as you avoided the scorching sand of course.

after the lake we crashed for a few hours before heading off to a Baseball Game sponsored by Chad's company. They held their annual party at the rough riders. We were a little nervous after having already filled our sun quota for the month. However, we were lucky enough to have seats on the shady side and ended up having a great time. Liam made friends with the mascot. I think she's supposed to be a prairie dog. Either that or a sloth.

So... we Survived! And will look back on this experience fondly.
